Automated Glass Warehouse System: What Problems Does It Solve?

Glass materials including raw glass sheets, processed architectural and photovoltaic glass are heavy, fragile and easy to scratch. Traditional manual storage and forklift handling bring many headaches to glass manufacturers.

The automated glass warehouse system is a smart vertical storage solution for the glass industry. Equipped with vertical racks, RGV, shuttles and WMS/WCS software, it realizes automatic inbound, storage, retrieval, outbound and inventory management.

1. Cut glass breakage
Vertical separate storage and smooth automatic handling avoid collision, scratching and stacking pressure. The breakage rate drops greatly, reducing product losses.

2. Improve space utilization
It makes full use of workshop vertical space. Compared with flat manual warehouses, storage capacity rises sharply without expanding plant area.

3. Boost handling efficiency
24-hour unmanned operation. The system automatically allocates locations and picks glass accurately. It connects seamlessly with production lines to speed up order turnover.

4. Digital inventory traceability
Each batch of glass has an electronic record. Real-time stock data eliminates mismatches between accounts and actual goods and supports full quality traceability.

5. Reduce safety risks
No workers need to enter the storage zone. Anti-collision and alarm functions prevent accidents caused by heavy glass handling.

In short, the automated glass warehouse helps glass factories cut costs, raise efficiency, lower damage and improve safety in production and storage.

Technical Article: Edge Defilming Technology for Low-E Glass Processing

Low-E (low-emissivity) coated glass features multi-layer nano composite film systems, delivering outstanding thermal insulation and energy-saving performance, which is widely applied in architectural curtain walls, doors, windows, and BIPV projects.

The silver-based functional film of offline Low-E glass is chemically unstable. If the edge film remains before hollow glass assembly, the sealant cannot bond tightly with the glass substrate. Residual silver film will be oxidized by moisture and air, causing edge spider crack corrosion and premature failure of hollow glass units. Therefore, edge defilming is an essential process in Low-E glass deep processing.

Mainstream Defilming Processes & Advantages

1. Mechanical Grinding Defilming

This traditional process adopts diamond grinding wheels to physically polish and remove edge coatings, matched with circulating water cooling to avoid glass chipping and cracks.
It is cost-effective and easy for daily maintenance, perfectly suitable for mass production of standard rectangular Low-E hollow glass.

2. Laser Defilming

As a non-contact processing technology, laser defilming peels off nano film layers precisely without damaging the glass substrate. It requires no consumables and achieves ultra-smooth edge quality with zero micro cracks.

This flexible process supports irregular, curved, large-size and thin glass, which is the optimal solution for customized architectural glass and BIPV glass processing.

Core Quality Control Standards

1. The standard defilming width is 8–12 mm, matching warm edge spacer and aluminum spacer installation requirements.

2. Conductivity testing is mandatory to ensure complete silver film removal (visual inspection alone is inaccurate).

3. Defilming must be finished before tempering to avoid increasing self-explosion risk of tempered glass.

4. Dust collection system is required for both processes to prevent surface spots and air bubbles on finished hollow glass.

Conclusion

Edge defilming determines the durability and service life of Low-E hollow glass. Manufacturers can select processes according to production demands: mechanical grinding for mass standardized orders, and laser processing for high-precision, customized and BIPV glass products. Strict process control and finished product testing effectively reduce quality complaints and improve glass assembly stability.

Laser Sand Blasting Machine Working Principle

Laser sand blasting is a non-contact digital surface processing technology specially used for glass deep processing. It replaces traditional mechanical sandblasting and chemical frosting with high-precision laser ablation.

Working Principle

The machine adopts high-energy pulsed laser beam. After beam shaping and galvanometer scanning, the focused laser acts on the glass surface instantly.

Under precise laser control, the tiny surface layer of the glass is vaporized and stripped at the micro level. Dense uniform micro-pits are formed on the glass surface, creating a matte, anti-glare sandblasting effect.

For mirror glass, the laser can selectively remove the back paint and silver film without damaging the glass substrate, realizing customized defrosting, patterns and logo carving.

Core Advantages

1. Stress-free processing: No mechanical impact, no chipping or invisible cracks, suitable for ultra-thin glass.

2. Digital flexibility: No abrasive materials or masks needed. Supports complex patterns, gradient frosting and partial defilming.

3. Excellent consistency: Stable laser parameters ensure uniform sand surface in mass production.

4. Eco-friendly: Dust-free, no consumables and no chemical pollution.

Main Applications

Washroom smart mirrors, architectural frosted glass, home appliance panel glass, photovoltaic cover glass and anti-glare optical glass.

Spacer Options for Insulated Glass (Apart from Aluminum Spacer)

Insulated glass spacers fall into two main categories: rigid warm‑edge spacers and flexible integrated warm‑edge spacers.

1. Rigid Warm‑Edge Spacers

Similar profile to aluminum spacer, channel‑type, filled with molecular sieve.

1. Stainless Steel Spacer (SS)
Hollow channel profile made of 304 stainless steel, filled with molecular sieve. Lower thermal conductivity than aluminum but still metallic cold‑edge. High strength and corrosion resistance, widely used in curtain wall projects.

2. Stainless‑Steel Reinforced PP Composite Warm‑Edge Spacer (e.g. Technoform)
Thin stainless‑steel outer layer with glass‑fiber reinforced PP channel body, pre‑loaded with molecular sieve. True warm‑edge performance. Good rigidity, bendable with corner keys, compatible with standard IG production lines. Top choice for high‑performance system windows & doors.

3. Glass‑Fiber Reinforced Plastic Spacer (SAN / GF‑PP)
All‑non‑metallic rigid channel spacer. Low thermal conductivity, cost‑effective. Common for triple‑glazing and general commercial buildings.

2. Flexible Integrated Warm‑Edge Spacers

All‑in‑one design: spacer + desiccant + primary seal combined. No separate butyl rubber application required.

1. TPS Thermoplastic Spacer (TPE base)
Extruded thermoplastic elastomer blended with desiccant. Continuous seamless profile at corners. Low thermal conductivity, excellent air tightness. Requires dedicated TPS IG production equipment, ideal for large curtain wall units. Reprocessable under heat.

2. 4SG (Ködispace) Reactive Integrated Warm‑Edge Spacer
Thermoset elastomer. Spacer, desiccant and primary seal in one piece. Forms chemical bond with secondary sealant after curing. Outstanding argon gas retention and long‑term durability. Preferred for passive houses and premium curtain walls. Higher equipment & material cost.

3. Super Spacer (microporous warm‑edge equivalents)
Microporous silicone / polyester elastomer with built‑in desiccant, fully non‑metallic. High elasticity to accommodate glass thermal expansion & contraction, reduces seal failure risk. Thermoset flexible warm‑edge, well‑suited for shaped / curved glass.
Quick Summary

• Metallic cold‑edge: Stainless steel spacer (better than aluminum only)

• Rigid warm‑edge: Stainless‑steel‑PP composite, GF‑plastic channel spacers (works on standard IG lines, mainstream for windows)

• Flexible integrated warm‑edge: TPS, 4SG, Super Spacer. Superior warm‑edge performance, most require special production

Why Film Removal is Required for Offline Low‑E Insulated Glass

Offline Low‑E glass is widely applied in residential buildings. Its coating contains metallic silver, which easily oxidizes when exposed to sulfides in air. To avoid edge oxidation and ensure glass service life, film removal is mandatory on sealant‑applied areas before assembling insulated glass units (IGU).

IGU uses two‑layer sealing:

1. Butyl sealant for air‑tightness;

2. Silicone / structural silicone sealant for fixing and sealing.

Three common film‑removal options:

1. On cutting machine
✅ Source‑side control, saves extra film‑removal equipment cost
❌ High pre‑processing time for edged and special‑size glass

2. On double‑side edging machine
✅ High efficiency, no extra equipment needed
❌ Film removed before tempering; edge over‑heating causes high stress, deformation and spontaneous breakage risk

3. At IGU loading station (recommended)
✅ No edge over‑heating, meets process requirements
❌ Requires extra film‑removal equipment or manpower

Conclusion: Film removal is critical for Low‑E IGU. We recommend film removal at the loading station before IGU assembly.
