We’ve been facing some challenges with our print farm lately. The most dramatic? Printer #1 went rogue and somehow collided with our water tank at high speed —bending its hardened steel nozzle in the process. For reference, that’s not something you can just bend by hand..!

We believe the printhead was grinding against the part for at least an hour, knocking out two bearings and leaving the printer completely out of order. Fortunately, after some quick repairs, it's back up and running!

Just another day in the unpredictable world of 3D printing. 🔧😅

Improved Packaging
We’ve finalized how we’ll package the PlantMates for shipping. One of our top priorities has always been to stay as environmentally friendly as possible. That’s why we’ve chosen to use simple cardboard boxes with our logo and recycled packing paper as stuffing material. So there will not be any plastic packaging that you will have to throw away.

Inside the box, the PlantMate will be protected in either a cotton or satin bag (we’re currently testing which works better). This bag is essential to prevent scratches on the black front plate. Additionally, all cables, sensors, and water hoses will be shipped neatly packed inside the PlantMate itself, along with a slightly smaller cotton or satin bag.

What were we up to?

Printing PlantMates is going much better than expected! We’ve discovered that by heating the printing chamber to over 60 degrees Celsius, the print failure rate drops to below 5%.

Thanks to the heated chamber, we’ve also been able to turn the lid vertically, which means we can now fit 5 PlantMates into a single printer at once!

We’re making great progress, and we’re thrilled to share that PlantMates will soon be shipped to you! 🚀

🔧 PCB Update – AUX Port Redesign 🛠️

To ensure everything fits perfectly, we started with 5 test PCBs for initial testing. Good thing we did—our Infrared Sensors didn’t fit as expected, so we quickly adjusted the design.

Just as we were ready to move forward, we encountered another setback—our AUX port supplier discontinued the part we had originally designed for.

The new AUX port didn’t require holes but was slightly longer, which meant redesigning both the backplate and PCB.

The good news? The redesign is complete, and we’re back on track! 🎉 Thank you so much for your patience and support as we fine-tune the final details. 🌟
