We are one of the ten finalists of this year's NASA iTech Challenge!

iTech is an initiative to fill critical technology challenges of future space exploration. NASA invited us and our partners from Airbus DS Space Systems to present our technology at the iTech Forum, held at NASA HQ Dec. 5 - 8.

Visit the iTech website if you want to find out more about the challenge.

Can you spot our experiment?

We're currently at Paul Scherrer Institute, a particle accelerator facility, to test components for our MAPT detector and get some interesting physics data along the way.

On the picture, you can see the vacuum tank holding our experiment sitting in front of a giant magnet (painted in red), which is the end of our part of beam line here at PSI. We shoot a beam of charged particles onto a small detector to analyze how the materials we use behave exactly. This helps us to develop and fine-tune analysis techniques for the full-scale MAPT detector.

We've been here for a few days now, setting up the equipment and waiting for beam operations to start. Today we started the actual experiment and are recording data.

We successfully completed our TDP-3 Vanguard experiment this week at Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, Sweden. If you haven't been following the updates on the experiment's page, make sure to head over there and catch up on what we did.

Vanguard is the third mission that is being conducted within the Technology Demonstrator Platform (TDP) series of rocket and balloon experiments at Technische Universität Müchen (TUM). The first two missions were conducted during the 7th cycle of the REXUS/BEXUS program in 2013/2014 (see here and he...

We recently received notice from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) that the experiment we proposed for the BEXUS 22/23 campaign was selected to fly aboard a stratospheric balloon in October 2016!

More information soon to come - only one hint: the mission is called TDP-3 Vanguard ;)

We're looking for a North American (US + Canada) or British undergrad student who would be helping us with testing one of our experiments for a couple of months during next summer. We're offering the position as part of the DAAD RISE summer research internship program. DAAD will pay you a 650€/month living allowance.

See the attached PDF for more info about the project. You would be directly involved with qualifying the hardware for its deployment to the ISS in 2017.

Shoot us a message should you have any questions. See https://www.daad.de/rise/en/rise-germany/ for more info about the RISE program and for applying.

PS: Munich is a lovely city!

To our German friends: watch this very nice episode of Quarks & Co to learn more about the Rosetta mission and the attempt to land on a comet for the first time. You will learn why tomorrow's events are so important for us to understand the formation of our solar system.
