Investing in the future of skilled trades means investing in people 👏

Last week, Trent, Walker, and Bart from our Saskatoon branch had the opportunity to represent Kristian Electric at Saskatchewan Polytechnic Women in Trades and Technology

As a sponsor, we were proud to support a program focused on creating opportunities and helping more women explore careers in the skilled trades and technology industries.

Our team had a great time meeting students, sharing experiences from our industry, answering questions, and talking about opportunities within welding, electrical, overhead cranes, industrial equipment, and the skilled trades.

One thing we always enjoy about events like this is seeing people discover career paths they may not have considered before.

The future workforce does not happen by accident. It grows through mentorship, opportunity, and investing in the next generation.

Thanks to Saskatchewan Polytechnic and everyone involved in making this event happen. We are proud to be part of it 👏

In honour of this week’s Syttende Mai celebrations, we wanted to share a piece of Kristian history.

Syttende Mai is Norway’s Constitution Day, celebrated each May 17 to recognize Norwegian heritage, culture, and national pride.

Did you know our Edmonton branch is home to a 60-foot Viking longship mural?

It is a tribute to the Norwegian roots that helped shape Kristian from the very beginning.

Founded by Kris and Bertha Gjertsen, our company has grown a lot over the years, but values like hard work, craftsmanship, resilience, and looking after your community still guide what we do today.

The Viking mural is a reminder of where we came from and the people who helped build Kristian into what it is today.

If you drive by our Edmonton branch, you can't miss it ⚔️

You can learn a lot about someone by looking at their toolbox.

Over the years, one thing we always noticed coming into our shops were the stickers.

Some welders seemed to have a few cool decals on their machine, hood, toolbox, or truck window.

Even the guys in our own shops had toolboxes covered in stickers from brands, gear, and companies they liked.

Eventually we thought…

Why not make Kristian stickers people would actually WANT to put on their gear?

Not just our logo and branches slapped on vinyl, but something with some personality behind it.

That’s where the Viking welding helmet design came from, inspired by our Norwegian roots, and we just kept running with it from there.

Now we can’t hand them out fast enough.

If you want one, stop by our shops in Calgary, Edmonton, or Saskatoon sometime 😉

Interviewing Wayne like the star he is 😉

But actually, following him around with a little microphone has been pretty fun!

Wayne has spent decades fixing welders and keeping welding equipment running across Alberta.

Following in the footsteps of our company founder, Kris Gjertsen!

Do you have questions for Wayne? Whether it is technical help, recommendations, or more — he’s your guy!

Let us know in the comments.

We’ll take any excuse to rig him up with the tiny microphone.

The future of the skilled trades is looking strong in Saskatchewan 👏

We’re excited to be back for another year as a partner business in the Saskatchewan Youth Internship Program!

Last week, Trent and Rae-Anne from Kristian joined Megan, Manager of Youth Engagement, to interview students for summer internship opportunities with our team.

It was great meeting so many students interested in careers in the trades, and awesome to hear that the program received a record number of applications this year.

Big thanks to the Saskatoon Industry Education Council (SEIC) for continuing to connect youth with real opportunities in Saskatchewan industry.

We’re proud to be part of it and excited to help support the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Repurpose. Reuse. Keep welding 😎

Oldie but a goodie from the archives.

Wayne took this vintage 1970s SR-200 and gave it a second life.

Instead of heading for the scrap pile, we gutted the machine and fitted it with a modified transformer to create something we can actually use everyday in the shop.

What used to be a welder is now a shop power supply for testing welders.

We can step our 208V power up to test multiple voltages, including 230, 460 and 575.

Sometimes old equipment still has plenty left to give.

It just needs creativity and the right person looking at it 👀

Follow us for more cool stuff from your local Canadian welder repair shops.

Preventative maintenance goes a long way 😎

Finally a vid from crane service!!!

This Street hoist came through the shop with a damaged cross shaft and worn drive components.

We took it down, brought it back to the shop, got a new cross shaft fabricated, replaced the gears, and brought it back to life.

Gibb’s number one maintenance tip? (After decades fixing cranes)

Do your PMs!!
Don’t ignore small issues!!
Call before the damage compounds 😉

Shoutout to Gibb for being a great sport to let us show the other side of our business!

Great to be part of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Electrical Job Fair this week!

Trent from our Saskatoon team had the chance to connect with students exploring careers in the electrical trade and show them that being an electrician can go far beyond running conduit.

At Kristian Electric, we’ve got electricians repairing welding equipment and servicing overhead cranes and hoists every day.

They’re specialized, hands-on career paths that a lot of students didn’t even realize existed!

It was awesome getting to introduce people to a different side of the trade and talk about the important work happening behind the scenes to keep shops, plants, and industry running.

We also gave away a Dixxon Flannel Co. “Voltage” party shirt and hat package to one lucky winner ⚡ (the lightning bolts felt pretty fitting for the event).

Supporting and encouraging the next generation of tradespeople is something we care a lot about, and we appreciate Saskatchewan Polytechnic having us out!

Let's demo the new Miller Cobot!

Your best welders shouldn’t be stuck on the same weld all day.

Use them for what actually matters. And jobs they actually like.

We recently demoed the Miller Welders Copilot Cobot welding system with a customer to show how it fits into real shop production.

On a quick dry run, we caught a clearance issue right away — before it ever became a problem on the floor. After switching to a slimmer Bernard & Tregaskiss AccuLock setup and making a few adjustments, the system was running clean start to finish.

That’s where the value is.

Let the cobot take care of repetitive welds, and free up your skilled welders for fit-up, problem solving, and the work that actually requires experience.

Better consistency.

Less wasted time.

Smarter use of labour.

That’s how shops protect their margins.
