June is Indigenous History Month, and with National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, it's an important time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, contributions, and leadership of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

At Challenger Geomatics, the relationships we’ve built with Indigenous communities are foundational to who we are and how we work. Through partnerships, collaboration, and shared learning, we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Indigenous groups across Western and Northern Canada for many years. These relationships continue to shape our team, strengthen our work, and create opportunities that extend beyond the projects themselves.

Indigenous Peoples have deep connections to the land, and we recognize the importance of listening, learning, and working respectfully within the communities where we operate. We are proud to support Indigenous partnerships that help build local geomatics capacity, create meaningful opportunities, and contribute to long-term prosperity.

Today, and throughout Indigenous History Month, we encourage everyone to take time to learn about the cultures, histories, contributions, and voices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

Congratulations to Joe Iles on receiving the Tim Koepke Award at last week's Association of Canada Lands Surveyors AGM.

This award recognizes exemplary leadership and distinguished service within the surveying profession, and judging by the standing ovation Joe received from the crowd, it was clear that his contributions have made a lasting impact on the ACLS and those in the industry.

At Challenger, we’ve been fortunate to work alongside Joe. More than 20 years ago, Joe opened our Whitehorse office and helped establish the strong presence we have in the Yukon today. Since then, he has played a key role in the growth of our Indigenous relationships and has worked on countless projects across the North.

Joe has been a mentor to many members of our team. He has always been generous with his knowledge, willing to share his experience, and committed to helping others grow in their careers. His leadership has shaped not only our organization, but many of the people within it.

Congratulations on this well-deserved award. Thank you for your leadership, your dedication to the profession, and the positive impact you continue to have on Challenger and the surveying community.

We know the value that a strong team brings to our combined organization, our clients, and the communities we serve.

Over the past few months, the Inline Group Inc. and Challenger teams have been connecting across offices, learning from one another, working together, and taking part in team-building activities.

From leadership training sessions to team lunches and pickleball tournaments, our teams have been busy building relationships and creating a stronger organization rooted in shared culture and values. What stands out most is the collaboration and accountability everyone brings in showing up for one another.

The momentum is building, and we’re just getting started!

We’re excited to be part of this year’s Association of Canada Lands Surveyors - Annual General Meeting in Whitehorse!

From sponsoring the event, to attending sessions, to having two team members, Curtis Blackwood and Mason Gray, as part of the incredible lineup of keynote speakers, it’s shaping up to be a great week of connection, learning, and conversations about the future of land surveying in Canada.

As a company with deep roots in the North, we’re proud to support an opportunity in a place that some of our team members call home. This event is great for bringing professionals together to share ideas, strengthening relationships, and continuing to help move our industry forward.

If you’re attending, be sure to say hello to the Challenger team including Paul Burbidge and Joe Iles.

Help us congratulate Abigail Kelly as our Team Member of the Month.

In 3.5 years at Challenger, Abby’s become someone the team leans on. She’s always there to help, and more importantly, she makes sure you understand what you’re doing. That kind of support goes a long way.

She brings a team-first attitude and plays a big role in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Outside of work, she’s usually out in the Edmonton River Valley, at Pilates, or planning her next trip.

Abby, we couldn’t ask for a better teammate.

Congratulations to Evan Bower, our Photo of the Month winner!

This picture captures the true dedication and commitment of our team. Evan and his teammate Danny snowshoed through copious amounts of snow in subarctic terrain to complete Kudz Ze Kayah mineral claim postings. It just goes to show that our team isn’t scared to get their fingers cold or their boots covered in snow in order to get the job done, especially on logistically demanding projects.

Today, we recognize Red Dress Day, a time to honour and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

Across Canada, red dresses are displayed as powerful symbols believed to act as beacons, calling spirits back and honouring their connection to ancestors. They remind us that behind every number is a person, a family, and a community still seeking answers and justice.

Red Dress Day is also a call to action. To learn more. To listen more closely. To support change.

Bringing awareness is important to us at Challenger because of the work we do within traditional territories and alongside our Indigenous partners. We stand in remembrance, respect, and support for the families and communities impacted.

You can help raise awareness by sharing and continuing the conversation.
