For someone who likes to be busy last week was just that.
A week to remember, a reminder of why I feel so privileged to serve this community as your Mayor.
It was a packed itinerary, from local and regional council meetings to connecting with residents and leaders across our community. Celebrated Focus on Scugog’s 20-year anniversary, joined the Cadets of 41 PPHS for their annual ceremonial review, and toured the new Scugog-Uxbridge Shelter.
I also had the pleasure of attending the Cartwright Public School fun fair, joining the Walk for Dog Guides, enjoying Diva Night in Port Perry, and participating in the Rural Summit hosted by the Ministry of Rural Affairs.
John and Doug joined me in the council chamber to celebrate. Community Living Month. I was moved by how the community rallied together to support the Smile Cookie Campaign, which cumulated into a wonderful cheque presentation to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation.
After a hectic and busy week, my final event was to attend a celebration of life. It was a gentle, grounding reminder to make the most of our time and to take stock of all the things I am grateful for.
With the beautiful weather and summer season among us, I hope to fit some time to tend the garden between all of the things that make this job so meaningful.

Last night I attended the kick off for Scugog Arts Small Town Big festival at Town Hall Theatre. A fantastic evening of music and stories about the migration of the Blues out of the Deep South north up the Highway 61 corridor to Chicago and beyond.
The festival runs from May 1st to the 19th. Check out the opportunities at www.scugogarts.ca/small-town-big

One of the more sweeter challenges I have shared, I am calling on our incredible community to come support Smile Cookie Week at our local Tim Horton stores, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Port Perry Hospital Foundation from April 27 to May 3!

I know the disappointment is very real and I am sad that Blackstock did not make it to the final round in the Kraft Hockeyville competition.
I am so incredibly proud of everyone’s efforts to try to get us there. Maybe we fell short but we have shown each other that we are a strong passionate group of people. The fact that we were selected as the arena for Ontario speaks volumes.
We are richer by $50,000 plus $10,000 financially. BUT your spirit and drive far exceed the financial achievement and I have every confidence that the community’s goal for the arena will be achieved!
Be proud!

Yesterday, with sadness in my heart I joined the North Durham Blades U13A team in a moment of silence to acknowledge the tragic loss of Rowen.
North Durham Warriors and Blades teams joined together in silence before games to acknowledge the devastating loss of one of our hockey family boys.
I send my sincere condolences to family, friends, teammates, coaches and all who knew Rowen. May you draw strength from each other, and comfort in sharing your memories and stories together.
