🔧 Home Renovation Tip: Tackle Cracked Drywall Corners Like a Pro 🏠

Cracks in drywall corners are a common issue, especially in older homes or areas with shifting foundations. Here’s how to fix them properly:

1️⃣ Cut Out the Damaged Area – Use a utility knife to remove the damaged drywall tape and any loose material.
2️⃣ Re-Tape with Paper Tape – Paper tape is stronger than mesh for corners. Apply a thin layer of joint compound and press the tape firmly into place.
3️⃣ Build Up Layers – Apply 2-3 coats of joint compound, letting each layer dry completely. Feather the edges outward with a drywall knife for a seamless finish.
4️⃣ Sand and Paint – Lightly sand the area smooth with fine-grit sandpaper before applying paint to match the surrounding wall.

This method ensures a long-lasting repair that won’t reopen with seasonal changes.

🏠 DIY Tip: How to Avoid Common Measuring Mistakes 📏✂️

“Measure twice, cut once” is solid advice, but there’s more to it than that! Here are three tips to help you avoid costly or frustrating mistakes:

1️⃣ Use the Right Tape Measure
Not all tape measures are created equal! For small, precise projects, use a smaller tape with finer markings. For larger builds, like framing or walls, a sturdier 25- or 30-foot tape measure will help you get accurate readings without bending.

2️⃣ Mark Your Cuts Clearly
Instead of a vague line, use a “V” with the point exactly where you want to cut. This eliminates guesswork. And don’t forget to note which side of the line you’re cutting on!

3️⃣ Account for Tool Widths
When cutting with a saw, remember that the blade itself will eat away a small portion of the material (called the kerf). Always measure and cut so the kerf falls on the waste side of your line.
