The aftermarket performance industry just took a major hit. StopTech, a respected name in high-performance braking systems for 27 years, is officially ceasing operations alongside Raybestos and Centric following parent company First Brands Group filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The financial collapse reportedly involves more than $6 billion in debt and federal fraud indictments against company founders in September 2025.
All three brands were placed up for sale but failed to secure buyers, triggering an immediate shutdown of brake pad, rotor, and caliper production. StopTech had built a loyal following for its budget-friendly big brake kits, widely used in street performance builds, track cars, and grassroots racing — often seen as an accessible alternative to premium names like AP Racing and Brembo.
Retailers will continue selling remaining inventory until supplies run dry. This closure reshapes the performance aftermarket brake market, limiting options for enthusiasts, tuners, and racers seeking affordable, high-performance stopping power.
