You may be wondering why the Shinkansen bullet train in Japan resembles a bird's beak. It's actually made to resemble the beak of a kingfisher! To reduce the sound of the compressed air, engineers resized the front to resemble the beak of a kingfisher. There are many instances of biomimicry like this. In this way, systems or goods are made using the power and principle of nature. It enables engineers to draw inspiration from nature, examine how natural systems function, and apply those findings to their own purposes. Systems or goods are made using the principles and power of nature.
Biomimicry has also been used by planners and architects to create works of art. Wood, bamboo, sand, and other natural materials have been employed by designers for millennia. Because of the world's ongoing population growth and development, architects' designs have a significant impact on energy use, freshwater consumption, drainage systems, and carbon emissions. Consequently, biomimicry has gained popularity as a concept for both innovative products and bringing attention to sustainable practices. According to one case study of the Sydney Opera House, their HVAC system is regarded as efficient since it facilitates the emission by allowing seawater from the harbor to circulate through fans and pumps (Ref: https://lnkd.in/das2JDUS) . Moreover, architects and planners look upon nature to safeguard buildings from natural calamities by enhancing the resilience through biomimicry.
