Kvareli is one of the important towns of Kakheti region, also one of the administrative centers. It's current population is about 7500 people, and has decreased since the Soviet times.
The most known team from Kvareli - Duruji (named after a local river) has been playing in the Georgian SSR top division for many years, with best result in 1967, when achieved 4th place in the republican league.
In the independent Georgia, Duruji has been most successful in the 90s, managing to climb the Highest League in 1995/6 (14th) and 1996/7 (16th place) seasons. After that their fate became complicated. After 1997 the club has changed name for FC Qvareli and got dissolved in 2000. After that, it has been revived few times, between 2004-2008 and 2013-2016, but never came back to the top. At the moment the local team is playing in the Amateur League only.
The stadium belongs to the most interesting and most beautiful in whole Georgia, being located inside a centuries old fortress. It's visible, that it's being used regularly, and the field is really good, even if the infrastructure has its limitations. Nevertheless, still waiting to attend some match here 🙂
