Our small print farm has boxes and boxes full off filament spools that don't have enough filament left on them to complete a print.
To use them up we designed a device to automatically swap spools using parts from an old Ender 3 printer and a control board from a CNC machine.
This was this first test of the first prototype and it worked perfectly!
As one spool runs out the next one starts feeding into the printer with the start of the new filament following behind the end of the old filament.
You can then replace the empty spool and the process repeats.
Not sure on what to call it yet. We're calling it the Auto Spool Swapper (ASS) at the moment but will need to come up with something better.
Stay tuned for updates!
