Like an iceberg, the real story of this McIntosh Island project is everything you don't see.

The gate weighs 420kg. There are no visible welds, no visible fittings, and it took a crane to install. It runs whisper-smooth on custom steel framing engineered specifically to carry that weight while keeping the aesthetics clean.

When Willemsen Architecture and Burleigh Constructions are collaborating on a residence of this calibre, the gate can't be an afterthought. It needs to match the vision, the ex*****on, and the attention to detail that defines the entire project.

A heavy machinery contractor. A 16-hectare bush property. No mains power. A house 400 metres from the gate. And one final instruction from the client:

"Take it one step further"

So Leo did exactly that!

It required some genuine creative problem-solving before a single panel was cut, but the result is a gate you won't find anywhere else in the country, because it was built for this place and no other.

This gate was always meant to be here.

When the owners of Gaia first came to us, they wanted an entrance that reflected the property - organic, sculptural, belonging in its surroundings.

We designed and installed these custom laser-cut leaf panels between rustic timber posts, and it was exactly right for its time.

Years later, with the property maturing, Leo and the team were asked to return and give the entrance the setting it deserved.

The timber gave way to stunning natural stone columns, new automation was integrated alongside the custom letterbox, and signage of the property's name added to the pillar beside the gate. Gaia. Earth. Nature. Roots.

But the panels that inspired it all? Unchanged... And still exactly right.

That's the difference between a custom gate and a commodity one. One gets replaced when the property evolves. The other evolves with it - and sometimes, it leads the way.
