Our Story

From its humble beginning in 1987, Zone has become the oldest and largest manufacturer and supplier of laser tag systems worldwide.

We’re proud of our long history, from a small family business based out of Melbourne, designing and building products from nothing, to the premier manufacturer and supplier of indoor laser tag systems with over 950 laser tag facilities operating today. Over the past decades, Zone has grown from a small Australian-based company to a global family of distributors, operators, and players – that’s something we’re really proud of…

In those three decades, laser tag has become firmly imprinted in pop-culture – Zone equipment has featured on The Castle and How I Met Your Mother, among many others… I have no doubt that over the next three decades, Zone Laser Tag, augmented by new technology and entertainment offerings, will continue to lead the industry, delivering success from continued innovation.

The history of laser tag is a history of Zone products – Infusion, Nexus, Rift, Helios – a succession of products which operators have loved and trusted for decades. Nexus was the highest selling laser tag system ever. Now Helios is only a handful of sites behind stealing that title. We’re proud that each new product range is more technologically-advanced and innovative than its predecessor, showing clearly why Zone is known as the innovation leader.

Zone owes much of that success to the entrepreneurial spirit that underpins all its innovation. Since Patrick Holmes founded Zone in 1987, it’s been a family business, and with Patrick’s retirement earlier this year, we continue as a proud family business – one big family that now includes thousands of operators, hundreds of staff, and a global network of distribution partners.

And the most important members of the Zone family, our players: the kids just playing their first game, and the ones who’ve been with us for twenty plus years who bring their kids in because they loved it when they were young – we can’t thank you enough! In the end, it’s the players that drive us to keep going, to produce new, more exciting, and more innovative products.

As Zone enters its fourth decade, having expanded internationally with offices and sites around the world, diversified into new entertainment offerings, and taken on new leadership, it’s important to remember what matters most to our operators everywhere – stability, reliability, and performance. A new management team, with enhanced operator focus, brings fresh energy to a lifetime of experience – resulting in the best possible products, services, and support.
