All funds raised go directly to the Taree Rescue Squad to maintain existing and also purchase new vital lifesaving equipment. The Taree Volunteer Rescue Association (Taree Rescue Squad) has been serving the Manning District since 1975. The organisation is a self-managed volunteer emergency rescue organisation made up of highly skilled volunteers who train weekly to respond to road crash, vertical
and general land rescues in the Manning Valley. The rescue squad is at-the-ready to cope in any type of emergency and is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Way back in 1975, Rotarian's recognised there was a need for a squad to assist in times of emergency and the idea was put forward in a public meeting to form an Emergency Rescue Unit for the Manning Area. The guest speaker was the late Ray Tyson, who at the time was Officer in Charge of the Police Rescue Squad and Constable Bill Henning of the Taree Highway Police Patrol. Nominations were called to form the rescue squad and 15 people were accepted. Our numbers have continued to grow and all our volunteers are highly trained to perform all manner of rescues, such as removing people from wrecked motor vehicles, vertical access in dangerous cliff rescues, search or assisting in times of natural disasters. Nationally accredited training is provided free of charge to all volunteers which includes road rescue, land search, cliff rescue and inland waterways. Depending on the individual’s dedication to improve their knowledge and expertise, there are many courses which they can undertake. To ensure the Squad can continue to serve the Manning Valley in its important work conducting emergency rescues, the organisation holds an annual fundraiser; the Weekend on Wheels Motor Show to assist in covering the cost to maintain our vital equipment.
