Getting crane specifications wrong costs more than the crane - and sourcing from a supplier who designs and manufactures their own equipment is increasingly how buyers are managing that risk.

SLS Cranes has just joined IndustrySearch. Based in WA, they design, manufacture and service overhead, gantry, monorail and jib cranes - including explosion-proof systems for hazardous areas.

It passed inspection before. That doesn't mean it passes now.
How it's being loaded, used and operated on site shifts well after the original assessment.

Before your next inspection, check:
- Are operating conditions outside what the equipment was set up for?
- Do safety systems still align with current WHS requirements?
If inspected today, what gets flagged first?

If your equipment may no longer meet current requirements, getting a few quotes is a practical first step - link in comments.

One quote feels like enough. It rarely is.

Without a second or third, no way to know if the spec, price, or terms stack up.

Before you commit, check:
Is that price competitive, or the only one you've seen?
Do lead times, warranty, and servicing hold up against other offers?
Is the machine specced for your operation, or just a standard config?

Choosing the wrong machine for your site costs you time on every job.

Mini excavators get into spaces backhoes can't reach.
Backhoes self-propel between sites and come with a front loader built in. Before you commit, check:

- How confined are your typical sites?
- Are you moving between multiple locations in a day?
- Do you need loader capability as well?

Choosing the wrong palletiser doesn’t just cost money - it costs production hours every shift.

That’s where output drops.

Spec sheets show peak speed, but changeovers and poor line sync reduce real throughput fast.

Before you commit, check:
• What’s actual daily throughput, not peak speed?
• Does it integrate cleanly with your line?
• Can it handle future SKUs and pack sizes?

The wrong choice shows up in lost hours, every shift.

Diesel has surged this year - and margins are feeling it.

More businesses are shifting toward equipment that uses less fuel - or avoids it altogether. Newer machines can cut consumption significantly, and in some cases electric is becoming viable.

If you’re starting to explore this, getting a few equipment quotes is a practical first step - it gives you a clear view of costs and potential savings.

Choosing the wrong forklift costs more than money — it costs downtime, lost shifts and a WorkSafe headache. 😬

Here are 3 things to get right before you commit:

1. Indoors or outdoors?
LPG and diesel emit carbon monoxide. Safe Work Australia recommends electric for enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces — it’s a compliance issue, not just a preference.

2. How long are your shifts?
Electric can take up to 8 hours to recharge. LPG swaps a cylinder and diesel refuels in minutes. Running multiple shifts? That gap matters.

3. What’s the real cost?
Upfront price and total cost of ownership are rarely the same. Do the maths before committing.

LPG or electric — what are you running? 👇
