Hey everyone, hope everyone's doing well. I must apologise to the lack of posts recently but we are now running on the peak season with the " mandate prospect" looming over our heads. Now I am fully vaxed but I fully support people choice, nobody should be forced to put something into their body that is not their own choosing or loose their lively hood from this decision.
The industry is suffering in WA as we know, now with a report from one Government body saying there were over 8k jobs for hospo staff in wa and they feel that most people are not advertising as it is a waste of money, putting the vacant positions at 16k. The general feeling that I get from talking to fellow hospo is that the WA government is not doing enough, they were not doing enough prior to covid and even less now with covid mandates. The proposed flights from the our island neighbours to the north have not proved fruitfull with less than expected uptake of qualified staff. I feel we need to be making it as attractive to English and European hospo as the government has for public servants like police and nurses. This will our ensure industry doesn't nose dive into the gutter with poor quality under qualified staff and will protect our culinary reputation going into the future past covid.
At the moment hard working culinary geniuses are just throwing their hands in the air and giving up, taking jobs driving buses and driving trucks just for mental respite. If we don't address this soon we will be looking at a drastically different industry.
