The screening on this Aurora on Sunrise project create a striking architectural feature and to complete the look each batten will be finished with a matching aluminium end cap.

These custom 45° end caps were CNC machined by Nelsons CNC specifically to suit the angled cut battens, then powder coated in Kinetic Bronze to match the finished project.

Beyond the appearance, aluminium end caps help seal the open end of the extrusion, reducing the entry of water, dirt and insects while giving the installation a clean, professional finish.

What’s your go-to when finishing aluminium battens?

JWeld Projects recently completed these custom aluminium batten gates using 40x40 battens, finished off with our precision-machined aluminium end caps.

A lot of time goes into designing and building gates like this, so it makes sense to finish it properly. The end caps help seal the open ends of the battens while giving the whole project a clean, consistent look from every angle.

Our aluminium end caps are CNC machined and designed with a true interference fit, so they install by simply tapping them into place with a rubber mallet. No welding, no screws and no glue required.

Last week we had a group of Year 12 Engineering students from Caloundra State High School in our workshop.

They spent the morning looking through our CNC machining centres, robotic loading systems and seeing how our aluminium end caps are manufactured at Nelsons CNC.

It was great to see the students genuinely interested and asking plenty of questions - it doesn't feel that long ago I was in their shoes, although the kids would probably disagree 😆

Back then I only dreamt of running a manufacturing business and what excites me now is seeing how quickly technology is changing in our industry. Between automation, robotics and ai, manufacturing looks very different to what it did when I left school, and it’ll probably look different by the time these guys graduate!

Thanks again to the students and the staff at Cal High for giving us the opportunity to share a small part of what we do every day.

What’s the feature of these fence caps, you may ask? Interference fit 💥

So what does that actually mean?

It means the underside of the end cap is CNC machined slightly larger than the inside of the aluminium extrusion. When tapped in with a rubber mallet, the cap locks tightly into place creating a clean, secure fit without glue, screws or welding.

The result is a faster install, a tighter fit and a cleaner finish across the entire job.
