Is your vaccine fridge ready for summer? ☀️⚡️
In a blackout, a glass-door vaccine fridge can climb above 8°C in about 15 to 20 minutes. Heatwaves and summer storms bring power outages, and one outage can mean a cold chain breach and written-off stock.
Under the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines (Strive for 5, 4th edition), your vaccine fridge needs at minimum:
✅ Purpose-built design for +2°C to +8°C
✅ Audible alarm with a visual temperature display
✅ Door-left-open alarm
✅ Min/max and current temperature thermometer
✅ A downloadable data logger recording at least every 5 minutes
And bar fridges, domestic fridges and commercial fridges must not be used for vaccines. Not even as a backup during a power outage.
