Ecotub is a great example of how a clear product idea can be developed into something practical, sustainable, and highly functional.

Boost Design supported the process through research, concept design, prototyping, testing, and design for manufacture.

Ecotub is a smarter way to compost at home, specifically designed to work naturally with your garden.

Every project at Boost Design has a dedicated lead looking after the project as a whole.

For the client, that means they’re not chasing individual engineers for separate updates. They have a single point of contact who maintains complete visibility across every discipline.

If something affects the budget, timing, or scope, it gets identified and raised early. When we provide an update, it’s not just a list of technical tasks to focus on meaningful project progress and strategic decisions.

That’s the role of the project manager and it’s standard practice across every project we run.

Software is a big part of modern product development, but it can't be treated separately from the rest of the product.

From the way users interact with an app to how data is collected and communicated between devices, everything needs to be considered early in the development process.

At Boost Design, we develop software and applications alongside the hardware, ensuring both work together as intended.

Taking this approach helps identify potential issues earlier, reduces delays during development and makes it easier to bring a finished product to market.

A big part of project management is making sure the team is building what the client actually needs.

As a project develops, new ideas and potential enhancements will emerge. Some are worth pursuing, while others add cost, time, or complexity without improving the end product.

Our role is to evaluate those options with the client and keep the scope controlled as development moves forward.

This allows the product to evolve strategically without expanding beyond its intended scope.

Whether it’s a smartphone app, desktop software, firmware, embedded systems or cloud-based software, Boost Design develops software that works alongside hardware products, with the end user in mind.

Through high-fidelity prototypes, the team can design, build and test how the product looks, feels and functions before it’s released.

This helps uncover issues early, refine the user experience and move the product closer to being market-ready.

Project timelines require built in breathing room.

Suppliers can run late, testing can take longer than expected, and some parts might require another iteration.

We account for those realities from the start rather than assuming everything will proceed perfectly.

It ensures a minor setback doesn’t automatically become a major delay for the client.

Clients often change their minds on specific details once they see a prototype or complete a design review.

This is a normal part of product development.

The key is understanding what that change impacts before making it. It could be a minor adjustment, or it could affect cost, timing or other parts of the design.

Our role is to provide clarity so the client can decide whether the change is actually worth making.

One thing that can easily get overlooked during product development is assembly. A product might perform exactly as intended. If it takes too long to assemble or requires complex steps on the production line, those issues quickly start impacting cost.

Good design considers the complete process, including how parts are handled, located, fastened and inspected. Small refinements at this stage can make a significant difference once a product enters volume production.

01/10/2026

At the completion of each project, we conduct a review of performance.

We evaluate what worked well and where challenges arose, whether that involves a supplier, a stage that required additional time or a decision that could have been made earlier.

We document these insights so the next project benefits directly from what we learned.

It’s a fundamental part of how we drive continuous improvement at Boost Design.

How do you reduce the cost of your product development project?

It doesn’t always mean finding a cheaper material or supplier. Some of the biggest savings come from simplifying the design itself.

Reducing the number of parts, shortening assembly time, or designing one component to perform multiple functions can lower costs without reducing the quality of the finished product.

Designing for cost early in the development process gives you options. Waiting until the end leaves you with compromises.
