Reconnaissance Trench Excavation - Annandale

Last weekend’s mission in Annandale; excavate a reconnaissance trench to expose potential tree roots before a new pool build. Tight access? Tick. Shallow weathered rock? Tick. A trench already hand-dug by a very determined customer, yet too wide to safely straddle with the excavator? Big tick.

With minimal room for access, our 1.2T excavator was the only machine that could physically get in, and even then it needed a bit of Groundbreakers improvisation. We laid timber boards to safely straddle the excavator over the existing trench, giving us a stable platform to dig without compromising safety or ground integrity. One end was taken down to 1.2m BGL, sloping to 1.8m BGL at the deepest point; not compromising on the future pool installation.

The customer had already given it a red hot crack with a shovel, but once the weathered rock showed up, the trench basically said: “Yeh, nah… you better call Groundbreakers”.

Tight access, tricky ground conditions, that’s what we do best. Delivering challenging yet successful excavation.

When tight access earthmoving is involved there is no better duo than the Kubota U10-5 and the Cormidi C7X dumper.

Both machines able to pass through narrow passages down to ~780mm making, yet capable enough to dig, move and cart bulk material.

The team at Designer Building P/L Home Builder Central Coast & Lake Mac had Groundbreakers onsite clearing, grading and filling material behind a new retaining wall. Once completed the excavator and Cormidi C7X dumper brought in fill, top soil and eventually turf.

Groundbreakers also graded and leveled the side access of the property ready for concrete formwork.

The job was completed in 2-days and the space was transformed. Thanks again to Designer Building P/L Home Builder Central Coast & Lake Mac for having us.

Groundbreakers delivered a 2-bay system in Forresters Beach this week.

The site presented a few technical challenges such as limited and tight access. Undulating rock on one side of the scaffold. A tree right up against the side of the tower. Despite the challenge, Groundbreakers delivered a a safe tower over a partial stair case and sloping block.

The system comprised a top level with our unique walk-thru system. The client opted for as little braces on the face of the wall as both windows and cladding is being replaced and access is crucial.

A tricky one in Somersby NSW earlier this week with a confined space mobile scaffold tower install inside a commercial water tank.

The side manhole was only 600mm, so our end panels had to be lifted to the roof and then lowered inside before assembly. Thanks to Scaffworx Hire for the subbie to support Groundbreakers. Precision work only a ticketed scaffolder with a confined space certification can deliver.

Inside the tank, the floor had a delicate rubber membrane, so we strategically placed protective rubber mats to prevent puncture whilst installing the single width 5m platform tower. Once locked in, the scaffold stood solid, compliant, safe and ready for internal repairs.

Another technical install completed safely, professionally and to WHS standards. Quality from start to finish.

20+ years working with machinery will either break you, or turn you into someone who refuses to put up with rough, half broken gear ever again. I chose the second option, and that’s how Groundbreakers was born.

After years working with hire companies who were happy to send out machines to site held together by either the paint, hope, cable ties or whatever i fixed on the spot, i decided customers deserve better.
