Outback dust doesn't care what your filter cost.

Corrugated roads turn fine dust into a constant assault on your intake. A choked filter means the L5P works harder for less power, and worst case, dust getting past a cheap element ends up in your turbo.

The Banks Ram-Air filter for 20–24 Chevy 2500HD Duramax flows more air than stock with filtration that actually holds up. Add the Banks pre-filter sock over the top if you're doing serious dirt-road kays — it catches the big stuff before the element sees it. Cheap insurance for an engine that costs more than most cars.

The 6.6L L5P Duramax in your 2023+ 2500HD is the strongest diesel GM has ever put in a pickup. It'll tow your van across the Nullarbor without breaking a sweat.

But "strong from factory" isn't the same as "set up for Australia." Heat, dust and corrugations punish intakes and filtration harder than anything Detroit tested for. Over the next two weeks we'll show you exactly where the weak points are and what fixes them.
