The calm before the storm!

We've got a complete SELL-OUT of todays practical h**pcrete installation training that is being provided by The Australian H**p Masonry Company and led by expert installer and general all-round legend Shane Hannan.

There are still some spots for the now infamous H**p Happy Hour & Factory Tour which kicks off at 3pm, so if you're able to get to Cressy this afternoon, and keen to take a peek behind the curtain at Tasmania's only h**p fibre processing mill, you can book your place via the link below ๐Ÿ˜Š

https://xh**p.au/collections/events

Shane is the guru who worked on the award-winning Forest Building in Hobart - commissioned by the University of Tasmania, designed by Woods Bagot and constructed by our very good mates at Hansen Yuncken - and he has flown in from NSW to deliver this course to local trades using the material in multiple commercial and residential projects this year.

The amazing team of Mighty H**pettes have got HQ looking s***k and span and ready for our visitors today, and on a misty morning in the Northern Midlands, my rockstar Ops Manager Penny is sorting supplies for Shane and our Factory Supervisor Tina is making sure the kettle is boiled and ready and cold beers are lined up for knock-off!

Days like today make the hard slog worth it.

โ™€ I've just returned home after having the pleasure of spending the past two days at the fabulous paranaple convention centre on the NW Coast of Tassie for what was a truly excellent professional event.

Devonport is looking SO shiny these days - another great little city in my home state punching way above its weight - and was the perfect spot for the second Tasmanian Women in Business Conference. I was privileged to join some truly amazing speakers over the two day program which was carefully curated by North Marketing Tasmania founder Bianca McKenzie and her rockstar righthand (wo)man Sarah Nolan from VirtuEase.

I met and had a chance to get to know some truly spectacular women all living and working in Tassie - including my fellow speakers listed below - and am feeling re-energised and inspired.

The sisterhood is real and she is a powerful beast indeed โ™€

My amazing team of Mighty H**pettes have been so busy over these past weeks I keep forgetting to update our socials!

Our HQ in Cressy, Tasmania is abuzz with activity today. We've got online orders being picked, packed and shipped; farmers and contractors co-ordinating the last stage of our harvest; staff dealing with our engineers on-site handling a repair to the mill, all while receiving an order of binder made by The Australian H**p Masonry Company (image here shows H**pette Jess handling the pallet unload like a pro).

AHMC and XH will be supplying numerous residential and commercial projects in Tassie this year with our Aussie-made products, and having clients decide to support local production is the quickest and best way to build our industry here at home. Wherever possible, we love having the opportunity to save our mutual customers on freight by combining binder and hurd orders in the one container like we are for this beautiful h**pcrete home that is being built in St Helens.

We're also excited to be hosting yet another AHMC practical h**pcrete installation training day next Friday 15th May, and this is a really special one, with Australia's leading expert Shane Hannan making a special trip from NSW to instruct a group of already skilled trades on how to confidently use this amazing material.

So much hard work and exciting times!

Exactly one week ago we enjoyed an absolutely stunning autumn day in Northern Tasmanian, which was great for us, as it was also the day we commenced the first stage of our 2026 harvest.

We still have a lot of stored bales from previous seasons - playing catch up after a couple of years of very bad luck including natural disasters - so this year we only put in 13ha of fibre variety h**p. For the fourth year running, we planted the variety MS77. The seed was supplied by EcoFibre Genetics and is now available for purchase from new owners AustraFibre. The small crop was grown for us by Nick Mills at Panshanger, and as always, Nick did a great job even in a tough year for conditions.

This short video shows the very first pass of the windrow machine tidying up the scrappy edges to allow good clean runs to be made up and down the paddock. Some sections were so tall - well over 3.5m - that this machine needed to do two cuts (one high then one low). DJC Contracting owner David sent out two of his skilled team to tackle day one, and while David is a veteran with four seasons harvest experience under his belt, it was only the second time Eben had cut h**p, and a first for Nathan!

Even though the h**p was taller than their machine, and they weren't using equipment designed for this crop, the boys absolutely nailed it ๐Ÿ’ช

Over the past few weeks, I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend not one, not two, but THREE lunches celebrating International Women's Day.

First cab off the rank was the Clifford Craig Foundation event on the 4th of March where I had the absolute privilege to hear both inspiring guest speakers - Ariarne Titmus and Fiona Plummer - as a guest of Ruddicks Chartered Accountants (aka the best CPAs in the land).

Next was a trip back to my old alma mater Launceston College - Tasmania, Australia on the 13th March for the fabulous 'Built By Her' event, an annual IWD initiative celebrating women in construction and trades. It was wonderful to connect with a couple of existing supporters of the h**p industry there - shout of to the reps from Tas City Building and Jo Palmer MLC - as well as meeting other incredible women working in a range of sectors, and hearing from the inspirational key note speaker Kym Goodes.

Last and definitely not least was the event today at the beautiful Alida at Penny Royal at the lunch organised by the Launceston Chamber of Commerce. The invitation asked for "senior female leaders to attend with an emerging female leader from their organisation [to create] space to mentor, sponsor and elevate the next generation", so I was delighted to have our rockstar Admin Manager Sam join me.

What a privilege for us both to hear the Honourable Michelle Oโ€™Byrne, who is currently serving as Australian Ambassador for Gender Equality, and who is also a longtime friend and ally to me and to our business. A shout out must go to the organisers of all three of these events, especially Chamber CEO Alina Bain and her team for putting on yet another great networking opportunity in my home town.

I am proud to have founded and run a company that remains majority female owned and 100% women-operated, and consider every day to be IWD at X-H**p โ˜บ๏ธ

And so the 2026 harvest begins!

On a stunning early autumn day in Cressy, Northern Tasmania, we got the first stage of the process - the โ€œwindrowโ€ or cutting of the h**p - underway.

Weโ€™re once again working with our awesome contractor David Charleston DJC Contracting - fourth season in a row for this legend - and heโ€™s sent his guys Nathan and Eben down to cut the 13ha of crop for us over the next 24 hours. Right now the weather gods are being kind to us and we're praying it continues.

Lots more content of the actual harvest coming soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Our founder Andi put her money where her mouth is by building the first two structures in Tasmania using our locally grown and processed h**p.

More than two years on, it is so exciting to see this luxury and eco-friendly accommodation getting a glowing review in the The Sydney Morning Herald Traveller.

The Tassie H**pcrete Houses are a showcase for all things h**p. From the stunning fire-resistant walls; the New Norfolk Distillery h**p spirits on the mini-bar; the H**p Harvests food in the pantry; the Eva Home h**p linen on the A.H. Beard beds, right through to the h**p mulch on the native gardens.

If you haven't experienced what a h**pcrete home can feel like, and are able to make the trek to Bruny Island - one of the most beautiful parts of the planet - you can book via the link below ๐Ÿ™‚

SUGGESTED USES
Hydrated lime, chemically known as calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)โ‚‚), is a dry, white powder that offers numerous benefits.

Construction: When added to sand and cement mixes, it significantly improves the workability, plasticity, and bond strength of mortars and renders, leading to a smoother finish and more durable, crack-resistant structures.

Gardening & Agriculture: It acts as an excellent pH regulator for soil, helping to neutralise acidity in lawns and gardens. It is also used in tree spraying, white-washing, and as a white ant (termite) deterrent.

Environmental & Industrial: Limil Hydrated Lime is used for water and wastewater treatment to adjust pH levels and remove impurities (flocculant), for soil stabilisation in construction projects, and in industrial processes like steel production.
