Warm air rises. When an opening skylight is placed at the highest point of a space, it lets that warm air escape, drawing cooler air in through windows and doors at a lower level. This is known as the stack effect, and it creates continuous, passive airflow through the home.

Before: a tired acrylic dome. After: a VELUX Australia & New Zealand FCM 2230 skylight framing the blue sky.
