Foot and Mouth Disease - Oral Exams

​Checking cattle for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is a top priority for livestock biosecurity worldwide.
The virus causes painful, blistering lesions on the tongue, dental pad, and feet, which quickly rupture into raw, open wounds. Because of this intense pain, infected cattle stop eating, experience severe lameness, and suffer a drastic, often permanent drop in milk production. In young livestock, the virus can even attack the heart muscle, leading to high mortality rates.
​Beyond the immediate animal welfare crisis, FMD is a high-consequence economic disease.
An outbreak can instantly halt international trade, close export markets overnight, and force the culling of entire herds to stop the spread.

Rodney the half bull has a a BIG day.🏀 🐃

Dr Don Finlay has had a big day too, and after 48 years of looking at bull testicles, he’s helping fix a failed elastrator procedure.
Not only that, but Rodney has kindly offered his rumen up for a demonstration of the new modified Easy Bolus E.
Here you will see the Easy Bolus E magnet goes right down the oesophagus cleanly, we also make a mineral bolus version that will deliver 2 mineral bolus in the same convenient manner.

In this video compilation, Rodney receives the magnet bolus and then rests after the removal of the wayward nut. 🔩

Rodney was anaesthetised for the castration procedure that has now assured his inseminating career is over.
It’s not uncommon for an elastrator to NOT capture both te**is in the band, and this is one of the most important parts of the procedure to assure affective castration.

Our oral distraction device has been around now for well over a decade and it's always a pleasure going back and having a look at how our distraction device has been reported and used by various cattle handlers.
