In 2017, Vicpole were tasked with the design and manufacture of specially made catenary poles for a public precinct in Prahran. After an extensive amount of design and consultation, Vicpole were able to deliver these specially made catenary poles.

The poles are designed to suit special LED lighting in the ornate flower designs, the whole project lights up the precinct and brings a lot of character to the inner city night life.

Banners on light poles have become fashionable - unfortunately, the idea of banners sometimes comes up well and truly after the pole has been installed.

Banners are a very effective way to enhance the streetscape whilst making a statement, advertising a special event or simply welcoming visitors at the gateway to a proud city. However, as with all things structural a process needs to be followed to ensure the pole can hold banners. The pole design firstly needs to undergo computations to be able to accept a banner or two.

Structurally, banners on poles do two things; they create an extra sail area which catches the wind, and they add weight to the pole, thereby increasing the likelihood of the pole toppling under abnormally strong wind conditions. So, it becomes necessary to design a pole with the specific capability to hold banners.

To do this, it’s important to remember that certain information is required:
• How heavy is the banner?
• What are the dimensions of the banner?
• What material is the banner made from?
• At what height will the banner be installed?

This vital information is then considered along with the particulars of the proposed pole, the terrain and soil conditions on site and the likely weather patterns in the area. The result is usually an aesthetically pleasing product which performs in the manner it was designed to.
